All other states have a requirement for these exams. Though the position of the Notary Public Officer is the same in all the states except Louisiana which has a civil law, the way by which a person can become eligible for the post can be different from one state to another. In some states, these posts are selected just through an educational qualification and/or an age limit, whereas in some states, it is important to appear for an examination to prove the eligibility for the post. In all states, one rule is important. People who are appearing for the post of a Notary Public Office must not have any criminal offenses against them. Different states have different rules for becoming a Notary Public Officer. Even within the states that need an examination before you can assume the post, there are different requirements on who can attempt this examination and in what manner. This is some basic information on the notary exam as conducted in the states of Missouri and Pennsylvania. Missouri Notary Exam An examination is not required to become a Notary Public in the state of Missouri, and interested people do not require many documents either. But there is a prerequisite of completing an education course. There are several ways of taking this course. People may either take this course online or by any other approved method through the office of the Secretary of the State. There is an additional requirement here. Each person who is applying for the post of the Notary Public in Missouri must procure a copy of the Missouri Notary Handbook which contains the statement, wording and other information required to become eligible for the post. The handbook is available from the office of the Secretary of the State. Pennsylvania Notary Exam A notary exam is required in the state of Pennsylvania. This notary exam is taken after an education course. The exam can be taken in a classroom setting or over the Internet. The exam follows a three hour notary education course which is state approved. There is a requirement of at least a six month period between the course being taken and the exam being appeared for.
